Marcelle van Rooyen

Born and raised in Stellenbosch, Marcelle has been richly influenced by the historic culture of the Boland heartland: food, wine, nature and all her bounty have been the source of many an inspiration. Now, being based as a freelance food stylist and - producer in Cape Town, the Mother City does not cease to continue to provide such inspiration - all things unique, literary, artistic and bold.

Having qualified from Silwood School of Cookery, with a three year Grande Diploma, her interest in the culinary world was furthered and refined - this has, also, brought a further understanding to the realm of food styling and all it’s different avenues. Marcelle has a keen eye for detail: beautiful and subtle intricacies; texture, colour, sound and movement that compliment a striking and emotive end-result.

Travelling has become a vital part of the process: the understanding of cultures and their food-thoughts, diversities and intellect, the world’s mystique and ultimate common-ground-medium (that being of cooking, dining, sharing, enjoying) becomes inexplicably intertwined and worth exploring.This, above all, is what excites her.

Of importance are the quiet moments of interaction and connection: these are critical to the day-to-day process, as we are only as creative as those that we surround ourselves with, and allow us to be as such.

Marcelle has worked extensively as a food and lifestyle stylist on stills platforms. These projects include: recipe cards and - development (Warwick Wine Estate, Morgenster Wine Estate, Avontuur Wine Estate, and some secret-in-motion-projects), packaging, cookbooks, editorial and advertising work, TVc’s (Spur Group, Nutrilite, Bjorg, Dr Oetker) as well as instructional and creative videos for social media and advertising purposes (Honey Africa TV, Jet Online, SA Lamb, SA Pork, Warwick Wine Estate, Hellman’s, Spekko, Royco, Knorr and retailers). Furthermore, she has acted as food producer and / or production designer on various local lifestyle and reality TV shows, as follows:
